BENEFITS:
Maximum Benefits: $5,000,000
Hospital accommodation (semi-private room).
Physician services - Medical treatment by a physician.
Diagnostic Services: Laboratory tests and X-ray prescribed by the attending physician due to an emergency. ( MRI, CAT scans, sonograms, ultrasounds or biopsies have to be pre-approved by Global Excel)
Private Duty Nurse - up to $5,000 per person, when approved in advance by Global Excel.
Ambulance services - licensed ground ambulance service (or taxi fare in lieu of ground ambulance).
Prescription Drugs - limited to one month supply.
Medical appliances - rental of crutches, casts, splints, canes, slings, trusses, braces, walkers and wheelchairs.
Professional services - up to $300 per professional service of a chiropractor, physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropodist or podiatrist.
Accidental dental of up to $2,000 in case of accident.
Emergency dental for relief of pain - up to $350. This benefit excludes crowns and root canals.
Remote Evacuation from a mountainous area, the sea, or other remote location to the nearest medical facility, to a maximum of $5,000
Emergency air transportation when arranged with Global Excel.
Qualified Medical Attendant:  fees for a qualified medical attendant (other than an immediate family member) to accompany you to your province or territory of residence when recommended by a physician and approved by Global Excel.
Return of Travelling Companion: One-way economy class airfare, to return the insured's travelling companions home if the insured is transported to Canada by air ambulance. Must be pre-approved by Global Excel.
Escort of Children and Grandchildren - the cost of a one-way economy airfare for the return of your insured children or grandchildren (under age of 21) and reimbursement of up to $1,000 for a caregiver, if you have been hospitalized or repatriate.
Hospital Allowance - up to $250 for telephone, parking and television charges when you are hospitalized.
Out-of-Pocket Expenses - up to $150 per day to a maximum of $1,500 for lodging, meals, car rental, taxi and parking fees incurred by you or your insured travel companion, if a covered emergency causes you to miss your scheduled return or requires that you be relocated for treatment.
Return of Vehicle: Up to $3,000 to return a vehicle if neither you or someone travelling with you is able to return it to Canada due sickness or injury. 
Pet Return - up to $500 to return your accompanying dog or cat to Canada, if you are hospitalized or repatriate during an emergency.
Return of remains -$5,000 for preparation and transportation to your province or territory of residence or cremation and/or burial at the place of death.

Some of the benefits must be pre-approved and arranged by RSA. Please read the insurance policy (attached below) for full descriptions and condition of the insurance benefits.

ELIGIBILITY:
1. Coverage in NOT AVAILABLE to any individual who:
   a) is travelling against the advice of a physician;
   b) has been diagnosed with a Terminal illness or Metastatic cancer;
   c) has a Kidney disease requiring dialysis; or
   d) has been prescribed home oxygen in the 12 months prior to their application date;
2. To be eligible for coverage a person must be a Canadian resident and be covered by the government health insurance plan for the entire duration of your trip; and
3. If your health changes or does not remain stable between the date you completed and submit the application and your departure date, you MUST contact your broker or insurance company and review the medical question on the application again.
4. If you are travelling outside of Canada, coverage must be purchased prior to departure from Canada. If you are travelling within Canada, coverage must be purchased prior to departure from your province or territory of residence.
5. Coverage must be purchased for the entire duration of your trip unless topping up another coverage. Extensions are available if you purchase the entire number of remaining additional days of your trip, before the expiry of prior coverage.
6. Maximum period of coverage is 182 days (212 for Ontario and Newfoundland residents). Coverage beyond the maximum period of coverage (up to 365 days) is permitted providing you have been granted an extension of your GHIP coverage.

EXCLUSIONS: Your coverage is subject to various exclusions, which are completely set out in the Exclusions section of the policy document. The following, although not an exhaustive list, are some of these exclusions:
PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS:
The following exclusions are applicable to any medical condition you have, including any medical condition you have disclosed on the application (if applicable). 

This insurance does not cover losses or expenses caused directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, by:
   1. Any sickness, injury or medical condition (other than a minor ailment) that was not stable at any time during the applicable Pre-Existing Period prior to each departure date. Stability periods for exclusion 1: 90 days for age 54 and under. For ages 55 and over: 90 days for Supreme, Elite, Preferred and 55 to 79 Vacation Plan; 365 days for Advantage and Standard Plan.
   2. Your heart condition, if any heart condition was not stable at any time during the applicable Pre-Existing Period prior to each departure date. Stability periods for exclusion 2 (age 55 and over): 90 days for Supreme, Elite, Preferred and 55 to 79 Vacation Plan. 365 days for Advantage and Standard Plan.
   3. Your lung condition, if:
     a) any lung condition was not stable; or
     b) you have been treated with home oxygen or taken oral steroids (e.g., prednisone) for any lung condition, at any time during the applicable Pre-Existing Period prior to each departure date. Stability periods for exclusion 3 (age 55 and over): 90 days for Supreme, Elite, Preferred and 55 to 79 Vacation Plan. 365 days for Advantage and Standard Plan.

STABLE means any medical condition (other than a minor ailment) for which all the following statements are true:
   a)  there has been no new diagnosis, treatment or prescribed medication;
   b)  there has been no change in treatment or charge in medication, including the amount of medication to be taken, how often it is taken, the type of medication or change in treatment frequency or type.
   Exceptions: the routine adjustment of Coumadin, Warfarin, insulin or oral medication to control diabetes (as long as they are not newly prescribed or stopped) and a change from a brand name medication to a generic brand medication (provided that the dosage is not modified);
   c)  there have been no new symptoms, more frequent symptoms or more severe symptoms;
   d)  there have been no test results showing deterioration;
   e)  there has been no hospitalization or referral to a specialist (made or recommended) and you are not awaiting results of further investigations for the medical condition.

PREGNANCY EXCLUSION: this insurance does NOT cover losses or expenses caused directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, by:
   - Routine pre-natal care
   - Pregnancy, childbirth or complications of either, occurring in the 9 weeks before or after the expected date of delivery.
   - Any child born during your trip. 
   - High risk pregnancy. A high risk pregnancy means a pregnancy where any medical condition or risk factor puts the mother, the developing fetus, or both, at a higher than normal risk of developing medical complications during or after the pregnancy and birth.

OTHER EXCLUSIONS:
-
Committing or attempting to commit an illegal act or criminal act.
- War, whether declared or undeclared, riot, rebellion, revolution or insurrection, act of military power, or any service in the armed forces.
- Alcohol or drug abuse or an accident while being impaired by drugs or alcohol or having an alcohol concentration that exceeds 80 milligrams in 100 milliliters of blood.
- Self-inflicted injury or suicide
- Radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
- Emotional, psychological or mental disease or disorder unless hospitalized.
- Regular care of a chronic condition or regular check ups.
- Once you are deemed medically stable, your emergency is considered to have ended and you are no longer eligible for coverage for recurrence or complication related to the same condition.
- Participation in any sport as a professional athlete (person who engages in an activity as one’s main paid occupation) or any competitive motorized sporting events, racing or motorized speed contests.
- Services provided by an optometrist or for cataract surgery.
- Elective and/or cosmetic surgery.
- Crowns and root canals.
- A trip outside your province or territory of residence on a commercial vehicle for the purpose of delivering goods or carrying a load. This exclusion applies to the driver, the operator, a co-driver, a crew member and any other passenger of the commercial vehicle.
- Sickness, injury or medical condition you suffer or contract in a specific country, region or area for which the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Canadian Government has issued an official travel warning, before your departure date, advising travellers to avoid non-essential travel or to avoid all travel to that specific country, region or area. If the Canadian Government issues an official travel warning after your departure date from Canada, your coverage for sickness, injury or medical condition is limited to a period of 10 days from the date the travel warning was issued, or to a period that is reasonably necessary to safely evacuate the country, region or area. In this exclusion ‘‘sickness, injury or medical condition’’ means any sickness, injury or medical condition that is attributable to the reason for which the official travel warning was issued or complications arising from such sickness, injury or medical condition.

CLAIMS:
In the event of an emergency, you must call Global Excel immediately: 1-800-715-8833 toll free from Canada and U.S. or 819-566-8839 collect call from anywhere. Do not assume that someone will contact Global Excel on your behalf. It remains your responsibility to ensure that Global Excel has been contacted prior to receiving treatment or as soon as reasonably possible. Failure to do so limits benefits to 80% of eligible expenses to a maximum of $25,000 in the event of hospitalization, and to one outpatient consultation per sickness or injury.

You must report in writing to Global Excel within 30 days of the accident or sickness. Send a completed claim form and all original bills, invoices and receipts within 90 days of receiving service. All documents have to be mailed to:

REFUNDS:
Full refund if requested before the effective date. A partial refund (less administration fee of $25 per insurance policy), if you must return to your province, territory of residence of Canada prior to your scheduled return date, and no claim has been incurred. Requests for refunds must be made in writing within 90 days of your policy’s expiry date. If your broker receives satisfactory proof (e.g. airline ticket or customs/immigration stamps) of your actual return date to your province, territory of residence or Canada, your refund will be calculated from that date. Otherwise, calculation of such refunds will be based on the date of the postmark of your written request. Minimum refund is $10 per insurance policy; refunds of under $10 will not be made.

MULTI-TRIP ANNUAL PLAN The premium paid is non-refundable after the effective date of coverage. However, you have the right to cancel this policy within 10 days of receipt of the contract and receive a full refund. You must notify your broker immediately if you wish to cancel your coverage and written confirmation must be received within 10 days of receipt.

EXTENSIONS and TOP UPS:
Available if you are in good health, no claim has been submitted and if requested before the expiry of the policy. If a claim has been made, an extension or top up may be granted upon review of your file by the insurance company. You must contact your broker or RSA prior to the expiry date of your coverage. The minimum premium is $25 per Extension or Top Up.
